Osōku was born from a simple yet profound desire: to slow down. In a world where skincare often feels rushed, clinical, or performative, I wanted to create a sanctuary. A place where skin is cared for thoughtfully, respectfully, and without pretence.
I’m Oscar, a qualified aesthetician and the founder of osōku. I’ve been working in the beauty industry since the age of sixteen, immersing myself in the science of botanical extracts and holistic rituals that honour the body’s natural rhythms. My approach stems from lived experience as much as from study, guided by a deep respect for skin not just as a surface but as a living, breathing storyteller. Our skin carries the imprints of stress, weather, travel, hormones, and emotion — all the subtle and not-so-subtle rhythms of life.
Throughout my own journey, I followed the familiar path to many. Chasing quick fixes from supermarket shelves, apothecaries, prescriptions, and supplements, trying to control or perfect my skin. But over time, I learned that this approach wasn’t truly loving or honouring the skin I live in.
I am unapologetically myself in my skin: from the lingering marks of acne in my youth, to the tired shadows beneath my eyes after sleepless nights, to the eczema that ebbs and flows across my face as the colder seasons approach. These imperfections hold powerful memories and reflect the natural, evolving rhythms of my body. I believe a facial therapist need not have porcelain skin to be trustworthy. The real secret lies in how they nurture and treat their own skin, and how they understand the skin of others.
At osōku, I begin every treatment with a simple but vital question: How are you feeling in your skin? If the answer leans toward discomfort or imbalance, my role is not to erase those signs with harsh actives or invasive treatments. Rather, I seek to support the skin’s natural flow through attentive touch, potent botanicals, and time-honoured rituals. These moments of discomfort are often the body’s way of signalling that it has veered off course and needs gentle guidance back to its innate rhythm.
I’m especially invested in the profound influence of hormonal cycles — in all genders — and how our skin expresses those subtle, powerful shifts. In today’s landscape of neo-beauty, there’s often a tendency to suppress these natural rhythms, treating fluctuations as problems to be fixed rather than signals to be supported. Osōku is my invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and work with your skin’s story rather than against it.
Every product I create and every treatment I offer is something I would trust on my own skin. Our signature Jyoti Facial Nectar, for example, was originally developed to soothe my own severe eczema flare-ups.
At its heart, osōku means 'to slow down,' a reminder to honour the natural rhythms within us, to approach our skin and ourselves with patience, presence, and care. It’s this gentle slowing that allows healing, trust, and true connection to unfold.
May this be the beginning of a kinder way forward with your skin.
