At osōku, we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work; the Bunurong / Boonwurrung, Wadawurrung, and Wurundjeri / Woiwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. We honour their Ancestors and Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples across Australia.
We recognise the deep and enduring connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold to Country — to land, waters, culture, and community. This connection is not merely historical; it is living, continuing, and inseparable from the identity, knowledge, and well-being of First Nations communities. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. This always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
The history of colonisation brought profound and ongoing injustices to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including dispossession, forced removal, and the suppression of culture and language. Osōku acknowledges these injustices and commit to learning, reflecting, and acting in ways that respect and honour Aboriginal knowledge, heritage, and practices.
Our approach is informed by a recognition of Indigenous wisdom, particularly in relation to the natural world. We seek to honour Aboriginal practices through the mindful sourcing of ingredients, respect for traditional knowledge, and ethical engagement with First Nations communities. We also strive to ensure our business practices are guided by values of equity, inclusion, and cultural respect.
A portion of osōku’s proceeds is directed to the Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation (WALTJA), an aboriginal elder led organisation dedicated to supporting Central Australian Aboriginal communities. WALTJA works to empower families and communities, uphold cultural knowledge, and strengthen connections to Country. Their initiatives range from education and leadership programs to cultural and social support, ensuring that Aboriginal voices are at the centre of decision-making.
We chose to support WALTJA because their values align with ours: a commitment to community-led change, respect for traditional knowledge, and a focus on nurturing the next generation of Aboriginal leaders. Through this partnership, we hope to contribute, however modestly, to the ongoing strength, resilience, and cultural continuity of Aboriginal communities.
We invite visitors to learn more about WALTJA, their work, and the impact of your support here.
